Rehome

Private Rehoming

So you need to find a good new home for your dog…

Sometimes the only choice and the best outcome for a dog is to find a good new home, and we can help.

Which breeds can we help?

We assist in finding new or foster homes for arctic breed dogs, with our priority being to rehome Malamutes, Akitas and Samoyeds. We also assist with Husky rehoming, however we recommend first contacting the dedicated Husky rescue services available in Victoria. Contacting a breed specific rescue will increase your chances of finding a home for your Husky. See our “Shelter & Rescue” page for details.

If there is anyway we can help enable you to keep your dog, please contact us and let us know what you are struggling with.

What do I need to do?

If you believe that rehoming is your only option, please fill in our private rehoming form and one of our team will be in touch. It is very important that you answer all questions truthfully and with as much detail as possible, the more we know the better we will be at selecting the best new home. Undisclosed information will likely result in an unsuitable placement and the dog being returned.

To avoid delays please ensure you attach all the requested documents to your application:

  • Photo of your dog
  • Desexing certificate (must be signed by a vet)
  • Current vaccination certificate (must be signed by a vet)
  • Current council dog registration form

As we are all volunteers with full-time jobs we are not always able to respond immediately, so you may not hear back from us for a few days.  If the situation is more urgent, please contact us in addition to completing the online rehoming form.

Once we have received your form and documentation, we will call you to discuss your application and arrange for your dog to come to our assessor for a behavioural & temperament assessment.

How long will it take?

We regret that in most cases we are not able to take your dog immediately as we are not a shelter and do not have a facility to house dogs at short notice. You will most likely be required to keep your dog either until a suitable new home is found, or until we are able to arrange foster care. This could be as short as a few weeks or take a few months and is very difficult to predict. Generally younger and female dogs are rehomed quicker, pairs of dogs and cross breeds take a lot longer.

If you are unable to keep your dog and you need to rehome immediately, you may have to surrender your dog to a shelter. Please contact us with your location so we can refer you the closest shelter in your area.  Please note that we cannot guarantee that your dogs will be successfully rehomed by your local shelter, and euthanasia is a possible outcome for any dog entering the pound/shelter system.
